Meet TaxBit Team Member, Ethan Brouwer

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.

A: I actually spent my childhood all over the place. I was born in Utah, and then lived in California, Switzerland, Australia, and Russia. I returned to Utah and graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with an Applied and Computational Mathematics Emphasis. Before TaxBit, I was doing devops and software engineering work at a startup and a small company.

Q: What made you choose TaxBit?

I was drawn to the idea of always being pushed to do my best and think beyond the fray. It was clear that employees at TaxBit have ownership in their roles and projects, and it’s exciting to work alongside some of the most forward-looking companies in crypto.

Q: What does your day-to-day look like at TaxBit?

My days consist of a lot of product architecture meetings, writing code, and collaborating with my teammates on a variety of projects. To sum it up, the work I do day-to-day could be described as building a really cool product with a really cool team.

Q: What’s your favorite part of working at TaxBit?

I absolutely love the level of ownership over my work I have at TaxBit. I truly feel like my contributions are making a huge impact. And I love the culture. The people here are all helpful, smart, and fun to work with. This is evident in our weekly Friday wins meeting, where we celebrate each other's success across the company.

Q: What’s your favorite part of working in crypto?

The innovation and excitement of the crypto industry is just awesome. I love investing myself and seeing the huge returns. And there is SO much potential in the space. With cool innovations to see and work with, and new problems to grapple with, I’m never bored.

Q: Outside of work, what are some fun things you like to do?

I love rock climbing—I try to go at least two or three times a week. I also enjoy the occasional video game or just relaxing on the couch, watching a TV show with my wife. I also spend a large chunk of my time with my 7 month-old son, which is a lot of fun.

Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be and why?

I know this isn't very specific, but I’d travel to Africa. It's the one continent, other than Antarctica, that I haven't been to. And I'd love to see it and experience it.

I would also love to go back to Russia, where I lived for two years and loved it. It’s been over three years since I’ve been back, and I can’t wait to visit again.

Speed Round

Favorite movie: I'm gonna have to go with Pixar for this one and say Wall-E. The music is great and the story is really engaging.

Favorite food: My mom's chicken enchiladas. They're super simple (basically just cheese, cream of chicken, tortillas, and salsa) but they're delicious.

Current Netflix or streaming binge: Mythbusters on Discovery+. And also The Bad Batch on Disney+. Both my wife and I are big Star Wars fans.
